Vicki Barrie

Vicki Barrie has served as Principal of Northcote College in Auckland, New Zealand for twenty years. She is deeply committed to the belief that every young person deserves excellent teaching and support for their wellbeing. This underpins her leadership at Northcote College and informs her contributions across the wider education sector.

A collaborative leader, Vicki places high value on strong professional relationships and effective engagement with key sector organisations to improve outcomes for learners. She is currently an Executive member of the Secondary Principals’ Association of New Zealand (SPANZ) and has previously served on the Executive, including as President, of the Auckland Secondary School Principals’ Association (ASSPA). She also played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Northcote Kāhui Ako | Community of Learning and was its first leader.

Recognising that a sustainable supply of high-quality teachers is fundamental to the success of students, schools, and the wider system, Vicki has a strong interest in influencing national policy and decision-making. Her focus is on strengthening schools’ ability to attract, develop, and retain exceptional teachers in order to deliver equitable and excellent outcomes for all learners.
