Call for Abstracts

You are invited to submit an abstract for the ICP Convention 2026. Abstract submissions should be made through the online portal by 29 August 2025.

Themes

Abstract submissions may be made under the following themes: 

Theme 1: Aotearoa’s unique culture & ‘brand’ of education, especially programmes or examples of education provision that showcase our natural environment and education outside the classroom, promote individualised learning in action, innovation, and infusion of Māori culture throughout the curriculum.

Theme 2: Promotion of Te Ao Māori in Education. We welcome an indigenous voice and examples of practice that promote te ao Māori and help delegates see education through this lens, including the revival of indigenous culture and language.

Theme 3: Innovation. Examples of innovative practice, and discussion of the challenges of dealing with advancing technology, with a focus on practical use of technology such as AI in education.

Theme 4: Equity, Wellbeing & Learning Support, especially examples that have found solutions to the provision of equitable outcomes for students and student and staff wellbeing.

Theme 5: Creativity. Discussion and practical examples of ways to encourage creativity through schools and programmes, including the importance of creativity in our curriculum for student development.

Presentation Types

Submissions can be made for Presentations (45 mins including Q&A) or Workshops (45 minutes including Q&A).

Abstract Submission Process

All submissions are to be entered through the online portal:

You will be asked to set up a ‘new account’ in the portal before you can submit. Once your account has been set up you can enter the portal as often as you need to.

Please note all abstracts must be submitted in accordance with the guidelines below:

  • Consider the theme that applies to your abstract
  • Please use the abstract template provided in the portal. Save it on your computer and upload the final version into the portal.
  • The filename of the abstract should be the first five words of your abstract title.
  • The abstract should be typed in Arial font, size 11.
  • The abstract text should be limited to 300 words.
  • Paragraphs must be separated by an empty line and must be left justified. Do not indent the first line of a paragraph.
  • Please only use standard abbreviations or define them in full.
  • Please provide information on previous conferences presented at e.g. name, date of the conference and the presentation title.
  • Please provide a link to any recordings of conferences you have presented at in the past or provide a referee.

Evaluation of Abstracts

Your submission should answer these questions:

  • What are the issues the abstract highlights/addresses/raises?
  • How do these relate to the convention theme?
  • Is this new and original information?
  • What are the key messages attendees get from your presentation?

All abstracts are subject to review by the ICP 2026 Convention Committee and volunteer reviewers and acceptance into the programme is not guaranteed.

Conditions of submission

  • Presenters must register and pay to attend ICP 2026 in order for their presentations to be confirmed in the programme. Registrations must be received no later than 28 November 2025 to be confirmed in the programme.
  • Presenters are required to organise their own travel and accommodation arrangements if required.

  • Closing date for submission of abstracts 29 August 2025
  • Approximate notification date of acceptance of abstract 30 September 2025
  • Presenters confirm participation and register by 28 November 2025
