Louise Ānaru

Louise Ānaru is of Ngāpuhi and Te Rarawa descent and is currently the Principal of Kaitāia College and the President of SPANZ.
She received MNZOM member of the NZ Order of Merit for her services to Education in 2021.
Her contributions to education include membership on the NCEA PAG since its inception in 2018, judging the Prime Minister's Education Excellence Awards, and formerly serving as Principal of Flaxmere College Te Kareti o Paharakeke. She also served as the Lead Principal of her local Community of Learning Te Waka o Māramatanga Kāhui Ako. Flaxmere College saw significant increases in NCEA and student outcomes and in 2018, Flaxmere College won the Supreme Award at the Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards.
Louise received the Sir Peter Blake Emerging Leader Award in 2013 and is actively involved in the National Aspiring Principals Programme and First Time Principals Programme, and as a Beginning Principal Mentor. She also serves on the Expert Panel for the Teaching Council Campaign 'Unteach Racism' and several other Expert Advisory Groups including Education Review Office EAGs.
Louise is an experienced Educational Leader whose leadership features in Ministry of Education Publications - Kiwi Leadership Principles, Middle Leadership and multiple online Leadership contributions.
She has been a Principal for 16 years and Teacher for 26 years.
